Since its founding in 1985, the Antiochian Heritage Library has served as a central resource for faculty and students of the Antiochian House of Studies, as well as clergy and members of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America. The library’s collection has grown to approximately 25,000 volumes and covers a range of topics, including early Christianity and Orthodox Christian theology; Syriac, Syrian-Arabic and Aramaean Christian history and culture; Christian-Muslim relations; and the early Arab-American experience. In addition to its scholarly collections, the library provides educational resources for families, educators, and anyone interested in learning more about the Antiochian heritage and Orthodox Christianity.
Located at the Antiochian Village Conference & Retreat Center in western Pennsylvania, the library provides a quiet atmosphere for study and research and welcomes visitors throughout the year. During the annual Residency of the Antiochian House of Studies, faculty and students have the opportunity to visit the library in person. During the rest of the year, students have access to a variety of services and resources, as outlined below.
Books and Journals: Library personnel are happy to mail materials to AHOS faculty and students via U.S. Media Mail or Library Mail, to addresses within the United States. Patrons are simply asked to cover the return shipping cost. (For international requests, please contact us as we may be able to obtain items through our world-wide Inter-Library Loan network).
Digital Resources: Students of the Antiochian House of Studies have access to specific online resources available through links found on the library catalog homepage. Most of these require user authentication via a valid username and passcode. Remote access to these resources is updated each year.
Research Assistance: Library personnel are happy to assist in locating materials, or by answering questions regarding research requests and availability of items through Inter-Library Loan.
In-Person Visits: For those who wish to use the library and/or conduct research in person, the Antiochian Village offers a special Scholar Discount on lodging rooms (subject to availability). Please contact the library for details:
