The Antiochian House of Studies is pleased to announce that Dr. Ioannis Ladas, a member of its research and teaching faculty, has been elected as Professor of Bioethics in the Department of Social Theology and Religious Studies of the School of Theology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
This election constitutes a significant academic distinction, recognizing both Dr. Ladas’s scholarly contributions and his formative academic engagement at AHOS.
Through his teaching, mentorship, and active participation in the institution’s intellectual life, he has contributed meaningfully to the integration of Orthodox theology with contemporary ethical inquiry. His involvement in the United States unit of the International Chair in Bioethics, officially established by the Antiochian House of Studies (AHOS), further reflects his leadership in fostering interdisciplinary dialogue on critical issues at the intersection of theology, philosophy, medicine, technology, and human dignity.
Dr. Ladas’s work addresses some of the most pressing ethical questions of our time, bringing together rigorous philosophical analysis and a deep grounding in Orthodox Christian thought. His academic presence and contributions in Greece and internationally have established him as a respected voice in the field of Bioethics.

Biographical Note
Dr. Ioannis Ladas was born in Athens, Greece. He studied Theology at the Department of Social Theology and Religious Studies of the School of Theology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and Philosophy at the Department of Philosophy of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Patras.
He holds a Master’s degree in Philosophy from the Faculty of Philosophy at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a Master’s degree in Theology from the School of Theology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He also attended postgraduate courses in Theology at the Protestant Theological Faculty of Charles University in Prague and in Philosophy at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul.
Dr. Ladas holds a PhD in Philosophy from the Faculty of Philosophy at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His doctoral dissertation was entitled The Problem of the Philosophical Foundation of Bioethics and the Bioethical Thought of H. Tristram Engelhardt, Jr. He also holds a PhD in Theology from the School of Theology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with a dissertation entitled The Holy and Great Council of the Orthodox Church 2016: Preparation – Procedures.
His research activity focuses on the broad field of Applied Ethics, especially Bioethics, as well as on Inter-Orthodox and Inter-Christian relations. He has participated in European research programs and in numerous international theological and philosophical conferences. He is, among other affiliations, a member of the Applied Philosophy Research Laboratory.
